Maintaining a lab

      Maintaining a lab is a tough job, one must be so alert and cleaning obsessive that your lab looks immaculate and spotless. Yah true the equipment and chemical are being utilizing by the employee  , during this time all work going without a hitch is what required the most without any panic and mess thus providing a Clutter-Free Environment.


SOP'S 

The most important thing is to document a complete flawless procedure step by step to guide the employees. Yes, the SOP'S are especially important to maintain a lab and keep it running without any negligence. SOP’S must be written by an expert with clearly mentioned each and every step with all pros and cons enable the user to cope with any situation and taking preventions.


DOCUMENTATION

There must be a plan for documents to be keep them in the custody of a responsible person. Filing the papers and keeping the files and folders properly. Whenever a document is required, he must provide with ease. These documents include policies, procedure, forms, records, staff list, inventory list, equipment list, etc. every important document.


SAFETY 

The first and foremost is the safety of employees, so every measure must be taken for it. Standard policies & procedures must be written for personal and lab safety. Safety system ought to be located, at easiest available place. Every employee must be, not only aware but know how to operate it when and where. 

 

 


ORGANISING THE LAB

Whether shelves, chemicals or refrigerators or equipment organizing is the key to efficiency, saving both money and time. Tagging, grouping, placing, returning things back are the most effective technique that must be followed by all members. 


CLEANLINESS

Work must be scheduled into daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning, saving extra efforts and load of work.


RECORD KEEPING (INVENTORY AND PURCHASE)

Keep an eye on you inventory to prevent from running out of supplies. Regularize you purchase by keep tracking.

 

EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE

 To properly maintaining equipment, all  the documents related to  procurement, installation, calibration, repair, records, procedure, and manual of equipment must be kept safe. The schedules of  inspection, calibration and validation must be monitored weekly, monthly, or yearly as instructed by the manufacturer.

A good housekeeping in lab prevents the accidents and fire and keep lab running safely. The pop-up reminders can be set on any device using in lab or even in your mobile for good laboratory management.
